Discover the road less travelled: Klein Karoo

Many a traveller know the road between Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich Capital of the World, and De Rust, the quaint little town, De Rust, as the N12. Continuing with this route will take you through the magestic Meiringspoort all the way to Johannesburg.

We explored what lies inbetween, the old world farm roads, beautiful scenery and the nostalgia of the past and present for the beating heart of every adventurer, explorer, nature lover, photographer, painter, biker or just peaceful driver. Which of the turnoffs you choose is a matter of preference, but all will either take you to De Rust or back to Oudtshoorn, making it difficult to get lost.

Recharge your batteries by giving into your wandlust. Slow-drives with many stops along the way. Visit the remains of the old train station, seek out farm-living, explore the award winning olive farm, DeRustica, taste some of the best wines, produced in extremely rustic terrior.

Native locals are extremely friendly and share their stories and herritage with such pride. Take a left at Oudemuragie which will eventually guide you to the Cango Caves to Oudtshoorn, also known as the Circle Route.

The farm roads are well kept and made our journey on 150cc scooters an absolute breeze. The options are endless to give life to your wondering spirit.

Pack a picnic or stop for a bite at theVillage Trading Post or Rays Coffee Shop to enjoy local cuisine.
We  truly hope to meet you on-route soon. Very soon!
